God is not GREAT – How Religion Poisons Everything – By Christopher Hitchens
I don’t understand atheists. That’s why I read this book. Upon completion, I’m not so certain I understand atheists any better.
After 286 pages recounting the various arguments and sins of people of faith and attributing those sins to God, Hitchens makes his point. However, he overlooks the fact that these “sins” are the actions of men and women, as sordid and horrific as the history of the peoples of faith behavior so unequivocally demonstrates, as illustrated by Hitchens.
This book is sobering. Hitchens is clearly an incredibly adroit intellectual who has a gift with literary discourse.
This book provided me with a deep appreciation for the history of our species acting “in the Name of God.” It provides insights into those wayward impulses to act in similar ways today.
Most people of faith won’t read this book. Pull your head out of the sand and give it a try. It’s amazing what God can teach you when you read the viewpoint of someone whose beliefs distinctly oppose your own.
